"Should we be using AI?" is the wrong first question. Almost every business already should be, somewhere. The question that actually matters — and the one nobody can answer off the top of their head — is where the gaps are: strategy, data, people, process, governance, or the tools themselves. So instead of writing another "5 ways AI can help your business" article, we built something you can actually score yourself against.

The result is InertiaAI's free AI Readiness Assessment — live on our site today, and something we point every new conversation towards before we talk about services at all.

The problem with most "AI readiness" advice

Most of what's published on this topic is either generic enough to apply to any business on earth, or written for organisations with a dedicated data science team and a seven-figure IT budget. Neither is much use to an Australian small or medium business trying to work out a sensible next step. We wanted something that gave a real, specific answer in about ten minutes, based on how the business actually operates today — not a checklist of buzzwords.

What the assessment actually measures

It's a 30-question self-assessment split across six dimensions that, in our experience, determine whether AI initiatives actually stick or quietly die after the pilot:

  • Strategy & Leadership — is there a clear direction and an owner accountable for it, or is AI adoption happening ad hoc, department by department?
  • Data — is the underlying data clean, accessible and governed enough to actually feed an AI workflow?
  • Talent & Culture — do people have the skills and psychological safety to use these tools well, or is adoption stuck with a handful of enthusiasts?
  • Process — are there real workflows AI could plug into, or is work too ad hoc and undocumented for automation to help yet?
  • Governance, Risk & Ethics — are there policies covering data privacy, appropriate use, and accountability, or is this being figured out reactively?
  • Technology & Tooling Adoption — is the current tool stack actually being used, integrated and trusted, or bought and left idle?

Each dimension is scored out of 100 from a set of statements you rate against how true they are for your organisation today — no trick questions, no jargon.

Why it's built to give something back before it asks for anything

The assessment is free to take in full, and it earns its keep before it ever asks for an email address: you rate the statements, then unlock a personalised report with your score on every dimension and specific, tiered recommendations — different advice for a business scoring low on data governance than for one that's already strong there. A business landing in the "AI Developing" band gets a genuinely different next step than one still finding its feet, or one that's already running mature governance and just needs to keep it sharp.

That mattered to us. It would have been easy to build a five-question lead form dressed up as a quiz. Instead the assessment is built to be useful even to someone who never becomes a client — which, done honestly, tends to be exactly what earns the follow-up conversation anyway.

Built the same way we build for clients

Under the hood it's a single self-contained, mobile-responsive page — no login, no backend database required to take it, styled to match the rest of the InertiaAI site. It's the same principle behind everything we ship: something genuinely useful, live fast, with no unnecessary complexity between a visitor and a real answer.

Try it yourself

If you've ever sat in a meeting where someone asks "should we be doing more with AI?" and the honest answer is "we don't actually know where we stand," this is built for exactly that moment. It takes about ten minutes and tells you, dimension by dimension, where to focus first.
